"My spiritual gift is spending money!" I've actually heard that one used. Or what about this one: "My spiritual gift is brutal honesty." Ouch! Do those even exist? What are spiritual gifts anyway? I had to take a spiritual gifts test several different times while I was at Southern. I couldn't remember what I scored on any of them, so I took one again this morning at spiritualgiftstest.com. Apparently my top three are wisdom, knowledge, and administration. I know some people value these tests highly, but while I believe they can be useful in showing us what God has blessed us with, I think that sometimes they give us an excuse to stay in our comfort zones.

It is true that we are all given different gifts by the Holy Spirit. Paul told the Corinthians, "Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit" (1 Corinthians 12:4). I believe God wants us to use our spiritual gifts for His honor and glory. He has blessed each of us with a special talent that He wants us to invest. Don't let the knowledge of what you think is your spiritual gift set limit you when it comes to stepping out in faith and following something that God has called you to.

Using my gifts for His service,

Pastor Sutherland
