George Boorujy is an artist who lives in New York City. He draws illustrations of rare open-air birds and places them into glass bottles with a note explaining his project and a list of ways to get in touch with him. The purpose behind this is to draw attention to the need for conservationism and also to connect humanity with nature. Just a few weeks ago, on January 17, George received a surprising email. It was from a woman named Brigitte who claimed that she and her husband had found one of his bottles on the beach near their home in France! They had opened the bottle, seen the drawing, and decided to contact the artist. This has sparked a friendship between George and this couple from France. In fact, they have emailed every day since then and Brigitte has invited George to visit them if he ever travels to Europe.

This story reminded me of another Artist who specializes in painting the most beautiful pictures for us in nature. As we look at the birds, flowers, trees, and mountains; we should be reminded of their Creator. And just as this picture of a bird in a bottle has sparked an international friendship, so the things of nature should help to spark an intergalactic friendship with the King of the Universe. In Psalm 19 we are told, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork" (Psalm 19:1). As you see the acts of God's creation around you this week, let it draw your mind to the Divine Artist. Develop a relationship with Him and then let that bond you form flow into the relationships you have with those around you.

Learning to love the Artist,

Pastor Sutherland
