A small town pastor was driving through the countryside one day when he came across the most beautiful farm he had ever seen. It wasn't new, but the buildings were sturdy and freshly painted. Trees lined the beautiful driveway and the house was outlined by vivid flowers. Stopping for a moment to drink in the picturesque sight, the preacher spied the farmer coming towards him on a shiny tractor. The preacher waved and the farmer stopped the tractor to say hello. "My good man," called out the preacher. "God has certainly blessed you with a magnificent farm!" The farmer paused, took off his cap and looked around at his pride and joy. "Yes, He has, and we're grateful," the man finally said. "But you should have seen this place when He had it all to himself!"
God certainly can create the most beautiful landscapes and majestic scenes. A simple trip into nature will prove that. But something magical happens when we partner with Him in creating something beautiful. When God made the first man and woman, He placed them in a garden to tend it and to beautify it. One of the joys of stewardship is having the opportunity to work with God in taking care of His creation. The book of Psalms tells us that "the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein" (Psalm 24:1). He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, but He actually wants us to take care of them. What a glorious opportunity!
