Mary, Did You Know?

Last Thursday, I was in the studio here in Lawrenceburg with my co-host, Dr. Henderson, recording the next couple of radio programs. For those of you who don't know, we have a weekly radio show that airs on the local station each Sabbath morning at 9:00 AM. Well, we were finishing a series we have been doing about the final hours of Christ's life and the song "Mary, Did You Know?" came up. The words of that song really made us think. We talked a little about the second verse, which goes like this: "Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man? / Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand? / Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? / And when you kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God?"

Sometimes I wonder, just how much did Mary understand? Yes, she knew that Jesus was the Messiah. Yes, she believed that He had power. But did she truly know what that meant? What about you? Do you truly understand who Jesus was? When Jesus was here on earth, He asked His disciples one time who they thought He was. Several answered with what they had heard others say, but Peter finally answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." Jesus looked at him and responded, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 16:17). You see, it takes more than human wisdom to truly understand Jesus and His mission. As we celebrate the gift of Jesus this season, ask God to reveal His Son to you. He can't wait to fulfill your request.
